6809 Introduction

Hello everyone.  My name is Amy Phillips.  I am from Buckhannon, WV but currently live in Fairmont, WV.  I work as a graduate assistant at the NASA IV&V Educator Resource Center where I coordinate and teach STEM topics to groups of students that visit the facility from all over the state.  I hope to learn new teaching techniques that can be used in the classroom, where technology is at the forefront.  To me, being literate means that you are able to read, write and think critically in many areas other than in core subjects.  I have learned what it means to have critical media literacy skills and how to teach them to students.

When I typed in literacy in YouTube, I decided to link to a video that reflects on what it means to be literate in the 21st century.

  1. Great video! I really like the range of ideas as to what it means to be literate in the 21st century and what that means for educators. I think we can agree that taken together we have a broad definition of literacy that includes being able to use all kinds of texts and technologies to accomplish one's purpose in the world.
